"The E. P. Burton Lumber Company sold Airy Hall, Cow Pen Point, Chapman Fort, Smilie and Palmetto Island to William Godfrey, John W. Maynard and James P. Maynard in 1907. Robert G. Elbert of Chatham County, Georgia purchased the group of plantations from L. H. Smith, December 14, 1928. Elbert called the entire property Airy Hall and developed it with golf links and extensive gardens." Page 600 of the reference.
