In 1929, Charles Pratt, on behalf of his father, purchased more than 10,000 acres on Chehaw Neck, including the former Middleton property, and formed Cheeha-Combahee Plantation. 

Other plantations included are Brick House, Field Point, Magwood, Oak Hill, Riverside, Tar Bluff, Walnut Hill, Whaley, Woodburne.

In 1991, Cheeha Combahee was reorganized.  Ducks Unlimited/Wetlands America Trust purchased a conservation restriction on the property, and a number of new investors bought stock.  New owners included James Ferguson, Hugh Lane, Sr., John Rivers, Jr., Laurinda Schenck, Weldon Scherick, Dale Critz, Joe Willims, and one of the original Pratt heirs, Richard Emmett, Jr. (Page 3 of the reference).
